Romanet Zárate is a one of the next generation of artists of Bolivia who are expressing the traditions of their heritage through other art media. Her paintings are inspired by the lush wildness of the forests of Bolivia, told with vibrant colors, energy and emotion:

"Contrasts and forms that evoke movement dominate in my work. In a certain respect, my paintings reflect the environment where I live. But I refer not just to the things that surround me, but also to the way that I see the intensity of the light, the force of the colors, feel sensations of heat, and experience the power of the thousands of shades of greens that are present at each step and moment: exuberant, scandalous and tremendously vital."

Ms. Zárate originally studied art in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, although she has also lived in La Paz where she worked in projects to assist women from the Altiplano. Returning to Santa Cruz and the tropics, she now paints, teaches and illustrates. In recently published book, her illustrations accompany the myths and legends of Bolivian indigenous groups.
